My choices of material have narrowed down to: 1. epoxy granite. 2. "specialized" grout or concrete (a kind that is available at driving distance) 3. "hardware store" / cheap concrete. It's a heavy CNC for poor man. 3 tons and less than $300 for the frame. XYZ travel is 500x400x400 mm. The overal dimension is 1300x600x1900 mm. It weights less than 3 tons.

Epoxy concrete is 2-3x stronger 90mpa in (compression) than standard cement based concrete 30mpa. The cost is around $2-3/kg and a lot of labour. Its a waste of time to spend all that time building moulds and pouring the mould to use a slightly cheaper product that will be 10x worse. 07-12-2016, 06:35 PM #7.

Re: Yet another epoxy granite mill. Hi Thomas - You will be able to calculate the stress in the beam at the applied load. From concrete data you will find a typical tensile stress of the material. Here's a grout with a flexural strength of 10MPa.

Our shop just bought a new CNC knee mill. I noticed after it was set in the shop that the casting of the back feet seemed to have large imperfections. Large enough that the machine will rock back and forth. We currently have the mill set on a piece of 1" plate steel because the shop has a wood floor set directly on concrete.
