Some have improved on it, and KMG have a new frame called the KMG TX that is made from 1/4" plate rather than the 1/2" and 3/8" heavy stuff of the original frame. I have the oldest style, and they still make that one, but it's kinda heavy. There's a reason there are so many KMG clones, and that's because it's such a good design.

Condition: The unit has been used off and on since 1991 and the only reason why I am selling is because I have a KMG grinder and am adding the contact wheel for that unit. The bearings are in great shape. Turns and runs freely and freshly lubed. The idler tracks very nicely and other than a few use related scratches it's good to go.

The KMG was intentionally designed so that the motor was not an integral part of the machine which allows for unlimited choices in how the grinder is powered. This allows you to use just about any type of motor and it also allows to set the grinder up with different speeds by changing the pulley ratio between the motor and grinder.

The tracking of the TW90 is like no other grinder, and I think it works better. KMG was the goto machine for years, but they haven't innovated or upgraded anything. I've also heard their quality control and customer service have gone down hill. I've ground on several machines, including Bader, Square Wheel, TW90, Burr King, Uber grinder and KMG.

Here is a leverage arm on a KMG. Not as sweet as Bob's, but does the trick and lays back outta the way. Direct drive is the ONLY way to go WITH a VFD of course. If budget isn't an option then the NEMA 4X enclosure, otherwise a cheap Chinese VFD that are so easy to setup. With filters over air inlets they last for many years. For $70 or so even if they only lasted 4 or 5 yrs would still be cheap. The KMG has been a good basic grinder for many years.
