I think you want both a 12" (or larger) disk and a slack belt grinder. The belt grinder is great for knocking the edges off things. And I'd second Mud's suggestion for a Multi-Tool if space is limited (have two of them, running different grits, plus another belt grinder). But if you want to preserve geometry, the disk wins.
