coal miner--All the holes I bore are shallow, a couple of inches at the very most. I bored the hole for my quill clamp, but it is only 3/4" deep, however it is 4.00" in diameter. Using the down feed is perfect for these jobs. I believe a true power down feed that would allow one precise speed control would be better.

A 5-wire stepper motor can only be wired as unipolar. 6-wire motor can be used both. To use 6 wire motor in a unipolar configuration you only need to connect center taps together.
