Turkey Foot Falls. March 30, 2012. This waterfall is in a great location of the Bankhead National Forest. Turkey Foot is in close proximity to a numerous of other waterfalls, including being a neighbor to Mize Mill Falls. This waterfall is a great one because you can go behind it like Upper Caney Creek Falls.

The first falls you see from the free parking is Mize Mills Falls. In October the water was a little chilly. I have never been able to resist swimming/floating. The pool under the falls was under 3 feet deep this trip. The small off-white fish with black spots on each side were hungry, least I think that is how to interpret the nibbles.

Turkeyfoot Falls: When you locate the footpath (located less than a 1/2 mile from Sipsey Picnic Area just across the bridge..see trail head location above) just follow it towards the sound of a waterfall. You will come upon Mize Mill Fall first. Walk down the embankment to view the falls. After visiting Mize Mills just continue on along the path.

Name Background The name "Mine Falls" derives from the 1700s, when low quality lead was supposedly mined from the island below the falls.In the early 1800s the potential of the Nashua River to drive the wheels of industry was recognized. Workers used shovels and mules to dig the three-mile long canal, which provides a vertical drop of 36 feet at the mills.

Turkey Foot Falls. A cascade along Turkey Creek that runs into the Sipsey River. Mize Mill Falls. Apparently most people have no idea these are carved above the old Mize mill site on both sides of the creek.
