End mills sometimes chip on the end of a flute and one way to continue using them is to make a small facet at 30° to 45° on the end of the flute (similar to the SPA on drills noted above). The result won't cut sharp 90° corners but apparently lasts considerably longer than an acute corner so this is sometimes done deliberately during sharpening.

The basic TINKER T&C Grinding Jig is terrific for sharpening the end of end mills and slot drills. This operation is easy to learn to do well, and can be done very quickly. In my opinion, even if all you want to do with it is to sharpen end mills and slot drills, this capability alone would justify building a TINKER.

186. The key think you want is the ability to move fairly rapidly and smoothly, to a preset stop. This is for using a cup wheel for the end grind anyway. Then you will want to be able to set the relief angles for primary and secondary (again end grind). Grinding the OD is more difficult to some degree due to having to use a finger on the flutes.

I saw a endmill sharpening jig for a deckel style copy from the "green machine company" but it has no air spindle and in my trials with oil spindles they are very hard to get right. I would get a cuttermaster, but the price is too high for me and I don't have a job at the moment.

Always buy new end mills, even on ebay. Do not buy used end mills unless you can sharpen end mills properly, including the hook at the tips. Limit the size of your end mills to sizes your mill can handle. Again, 3/8" to maybe 1/2" would be the max. Quite often, you can save money by buying off sized end mills.

Sharpening the ends of end mills is very easy. It is ground like a drill is...... A primary angle usually about 7 degrees..... A secondary angle for clearance. The big difference is, the ends of the flutes are ground to a 2 degree angle to "dish" . This is so the corners of the flutes cut and the center does not rub.
