The whole reason behind inquartation and parting is to reduce the gold content so that the AR can disolve the gold. If the silver content is too high, silver chloride will form on the outside preventing access to the gold by the AR. You could literally boil 20 Karat gold in AR for days with no joy. Too much silver and your gold ends up too fine ...

عرض المزيدTo be accurate after inquarting your gold scrap and dissolving your base metals and silver in nitric you will have contaminated gold powder and copper, silver and other base metal nitrate. To remove your silver you need to cement it out with copper which will leave you with silver and trace amounts of gold, copper and any PGMs in the solution.

عرض المزيدInquarting is still the way to go if you are "toll refining" lot by lot and paying the customer on out turn, but if your lots grow and you decide to skip the individual lot processing for bulk refining, think tumblers. عرض المزيدIt takes (about) 4 times more nitric acid (67 - 70 %) to dissolve a gram of copper compared to dissolving a gram of silver. It takes (about) 1 ml nitric to dissolve a gram of silver - so (about) 4 ml of nitric to dissolve a gram of copper. So your cost for the acid goes up 4 times for every gram of copper you add to do your inquarting.
عرض المزيدThe Platinum is 4.9%, again for a small lot. This is all head math so I should check it. Anyway over $700 per week is a lot to give up. Depending on what you spend on nitric acid, which may be a lot if you pay what small users in the USA pay, you should be able to save some serious money refining in house.
عرض المزيدInteresting. Great idea. I think it could easily be done, at least for yellow, green, and red alloys, which contain only gold, silver, copper, and a little zinc. White gold, with it's nickel or palladium, may cause a problem. After silver inquarting, on an average of 50% gold - ballpark numbers: Au = 25%, Cu = 20%, and Ag = 55%.

عرض المزيدDec 31, 2009. #2. The term inquarting comes from the ancients meaning to make into quarters. So make the gold content at least 1 quarter and you'll be OK. If you don't know the gold content assume it is all gold and add 3 times its weight in silver. You can't add too much silver but if you don't add enough it won't dissolve in nitric either.
عرض المزيدWith inquarting you bring the gold below 6 karat(25% gold 75% silver) so nitric acid can digest all the silver from the gold.
