1 Grinder Tool Rest 05M23.01 Most bench grinders come with small and flimsy tool rests that make accurate grinding nearly impossible. The Veritas® Grinder Tool Rest provides a large stable surface that is infinitely adjustable for accurate grinding on 6" or 8" bench grinders and many belt sanders, and can be readily folded
عرض المزيدWhen I got my 8" grinder, the tool rests left a lot to be desired, especially when grinding lathe tools. This is what I made up for the fine grit wheel. The table is made from 1/2" steel, with the pivot bracket welded to the bottom. The whole thing is attached to the wheel guard with 1 1/2" angle iron, with a brace to the pedestal base.
عرض المزيدLee Valley Tools makes an excellent grinder tool rest for bench grinders for about $50 Canadian. عرض المزيدI read Leonard Lee's sharpening book and the Lee Valley catalogues. From them I decided to try a 1" belt sander to replace the grinder. The tool rest on the 1" Delta belt sander cannot be used when grinding at the angles required for plane blades and chisels, so I bent a bit of angle iron to make a new tool rest for the belt sander.

عرض المزيدJan 18, 2010. #6. It's still the only grinder I have, and the selection of belts from lee valley is relay the only thing that makes it worth having in my opinion. عرض المزيدI've found that frequent touch-ups on the grinder work better than less frequent hard grindings. Also, the grinder gives a good burr to scrapers or the edge of bowl gouges used inverted for skew-scraping. One thing I WOULD like to add is a pair of good-quality adjustable tool rests that can be set up and left for things like bowl scrapers.

عرض المزيدThere are basically two commercial rests I know of: the Veritas Grinding Jig sold by Lee Valley Tool and the Grind-R-Table sold by GRS Tools. The latter is more useful for lathe tools as the height is not altered by the relief adjustment. Then again, it is also about twice the price. 09-30-2011, 09:14 AM #6. Pete Wass.
عرض المزيدThe only grinder I've used before is the belt grinder Lee Valley sells. It worked well enough in the class, but you buy it you also need to buy an electrical motor separately, and unless I am looking in the wrong place that is going to be atleast $40, so all told I'd be looking at about $150 after tax.
